We often hear people talk about how overrated birthday parties are. I, for one, have felt this way from time to time. But if we are being honest, are birthday parties all they are cut out to be?
When I was much younger, I always saw other people celebrate their birthdays in various ways. Some would rent entire restaurants for the day. Some would go on an expensive outing. Some would have a very chill and laid-back celebration.
When we were younger, we are made to feel that if we do not celebrate our birthdays in grand style, then it was a waste and it was not worth it. I know I have opposed this occasionally. But why exactly do we celebrate birthdays?
Life is a labyrinth of challenges. It is really difficult and demanding. Regardless of what age, race, gender, or social status you are, life comes with its own set of challenges we must overcome. Each person does not face the same set of challenges. Meaning our life stories are unique.
The fact that every day we can wake up, look our problems in the eye, and carry on living regardless, is absolutely worth celebrating if you ask me.
We all have those people that mean the world to us. We all have those people we have to thank for the level in life we've gotten to currently. We all have those people who would do anything for us, and whom we would do the same for.
I think it's worth celebrating these people and making them feel loved. It's important to let these people know we still care deeply about them. These people are our rock and we love these people and what they add to our lives. I think it's worth acknowledging them and celebrating their lives. 'Cause, that's what birthdays are, a celebration of life.
Every birthday is a reminder. We are no longer the infant we once were. We are growing older. We are becoming more experienced. We are more mature than we once were.
I do think birthdays are a good reminder of this fact. Birthdays give us time to acknowledge the fact that we have grown, and are still growing. They are a time to reflect on how we've spent our lives thus far. It allows us to look ahead at what the future has in store for us, and plan according.
Sure, there are roughly 8 billion people in the world. Sure, these 8 billion people eventually die. Sure, more people have gone and more are still on the way. But, you are unique. There's no one like you on this planet. No one will have the same vibe you have. No one will ever have the same aura.
Life can beat us up and make us feel that we do not matter. It can sometimes make us feel insufficient and inadequate. It can make us feel unloved.
Birthdays are a special time to allow us to remind ourselves that we do matter. Every single one of us with our unique stories and experiences. We are unique. You are unique.
Not really. I know I just talked about why we should celebrate our birthdays, but we do not need to have a whole Super Bowl-level celebration. Not having a massive celebration does not mean you do not acknowledge your birthday, or that of the person you are celebrating.
We might sometimes think, 'What's the point?". Life is short. I do think it's worth celebrating when we have a chance. We might not that chance again. Whether you choose to celebrate big or not, it's good to celebrate it.
Sometimes, we are able to have grand celebrations. Sometimes, we are unable to have such. What counts is the fact that we remember and actually acknowledge it. Remember:
